14-9-1939 Fedor von Bock’S Diary

Previous diary entries → 010203

///

Fedor von Bock keeps advancing towards Warsaw; he was met with stubborn resistance from the Poles, some quarters had been difficult to deal with. Fedi, being a very hands-on commander, drives between the headquarters of the I Army Corps and the 3rd Army to see to various details personally. He comments on how unbearably hard the terrain is, even goes so far as to say “the history of war will not forget it”.

In the meantime, Guderian has been doing pretty well. Fedi notes down the towns he took.

It may not be an exaggeration, because he says it’s “16 hours on hair-raising roads”. He was constantly trapped in lonely forests or really random places. Oh come on!

It is true that roads and transportation are so important in warfare. Von Bock would be incredibly foolhardy if he drives alone from shithole to shithole (I thinks at least his adjutant would accompany him). After all, when the Roman empire decided to conquer southern Italy, the first thing they did is to build the now renowned Appian Way– a perfectly straight road and an engineering miracle.

Fedi’s car is most likely Mercedes-Benz G4, whereas in the desert, Rommel drives a humbler Horch 901.

It is also very funny that, when the car breaks down, Rommel would jump down and push the vehicle himself, but von Bock would have other people haul him out of his predicament.

OMG, Fedi is giving me some mean girl vibe…
